I Miss My Windows Live Writer

One of the casualties of my recent computer headaches has been the loss
of Windows Live Writer in my available software. For some reason, I
just can’t get the thing to install. If you’ve been reading this site for very long you know I’ve been in love with Windows Live Writer for quite awhile now. I really miss it! Not enjoying having to rely on Word 2007, ScribeFire and WordPress Dashboard to manage all my blogs.
When I try to install Writer by adding it into the installation package I end up getting the following error.

First let’s address the “Try again later”. Do what? What will trying
again later do? Is my computer tired? Should I let it take a nap by
putting it in “Sleep” mode for a few. Come on, if there’s an error,
there’s an error. It would be nice if you actually told me what the
problem was wouldn’t it? No, I’ve got to go to the Event Viewer to get
that information.
Here’s what I see in the Event Viewer

Anyone know what that means? Any help would be appreciated.
I’m really missing Windows Live Writer, so if anyone has any ideas let me know quick!

Jason – I HATE that error message… it basically is saying there is no associated text with that event ID… probably because someone @ MS didn’t do their Job ;)
My first piece of advice when any software installation fails is usually delete everything from the TEMP folder, then reboot, and try again…
However a quick Yahoo leads me to:
http://forums.techarena.in/windows-xp-support/906080.htm where someone reports this may be a DLL registration problem in SP3 — do this to re-register:
Start > Run > regsvr32 wups2.dll
(personally I’d run it from a CMD prompt…)
You should try posting the issue here:
http://groups.msn.com/windowslivewriter They are very good at replying normally.
I’d hold off until later today, when all new versions of the Windows Live apps will be released, including Writer. The new installer is much more robust.
When they go live they will be here:

Oh that’s beautiful! Can’t wait! Thanks Joe!
Joe the new installer didn’t work for me. Any ideas?
Try uninstalling the Tech Preview before installing the new version. Don’t worry, you won’t lose any settings or data.
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled, rinsed and repeated. Don’t know what the deal is.
Jason–please e-mail me at joe.cheng *AT* microsoft.com. Thanks.
