Another bug exploit attacking IE. I’m sure it’s no surprise to everyone, but Microsoft made it official and warned users themselves yesterday.
The bug relates to the way that IE processes information using the createTextRange() method. By presenting the browser with specially crafted code, attackers could corrupt the system’s memory and trick it into running unauthorized software.
“We’re still investigating, but we have confirmed this vulnerability and I am writing a Microsoft Security Advisory on this,” wrote Lennart Wistrand, security program manager with the Microsoft Security Response Center, in a blog posting. “We will address it in a security update.”
I’ve pretty much switched 100% to using Firefox for all of my web-browsing needs. I downloaded the beta of IE7 and just haven’t been happy with their interface as compared to Firefox. It just seems too bulky for me and I didn’t like their execution of the tab functionality yet. I believe the UI has been updated quite a bit with the latest version of the IE7 beta, but I haven’t had a chance to download, install and play with that one yet. Hopefully I can get to that this weekend sometime.
Right now, let’s just focus on the latest bug exploit issue and take care of that. If you’re an IE user, be sure and read all the details below.
