I’m a Celebrity show & Social Media

So I decided to watch the show “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here” just to see what it’s all about. For those who don’t know, the focus of this show is to provide once famous, almost famous, 15-minute famous people to prove that they can survive the jungle. There are two teams of celebrities (mixture of male and female), red team and a yellow team. The cast is not doing this so that they can win money but for a charity.

The interesting thing about this show is that you immediately see a difference in the attitude on both teams. The red team seems to be disjointed and low on supporting each other. Whereas with the yellow team, they seem to be more social with each other and supportive. Then once they reached camp, they were split into men versus women teams which brought a whole different vibe to the show.
When looking at the differences between the two teams, it brings to mind how your social media efforts can be viewed the same way. You can either be like the red team (disjointed) or the yellow team (supportive). When you interact with others via social media websites, do you support them in their efforts to network or grow their business? Or have you chosen not to help others to network or grow their business?
I don’t usually watch reality shows like this because I think it’s just a bunch of nonsense. However I just couldn’t miss a good laugh or two. What stood out to me is the bratiness of the Pratt couple and how they were classic examples of the “me” factor. When using social media, it helps if you get past the “me” factor and more into the “we” factor and being helpful to those around you.
So my take of this show during it’s first few days is that yes it’s for a good cause but the personalities are sometimes over the top. In applying this to social media, remember that when you network to do it for the good and not to tear someone down. If you want to watch reruns, you can check it out on Hulu.com by visiting “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here” page.
