In Australia, Tall Men Earn More Money

Studies have been done on how society reacts to people who are considered “better looking” than others, those who have more popular names, and those who are skinny versus heavy. Usually, the ideal or better people end up having an easier time in life in terms of better attention from teachers, better grades, better job opportunities and better salaries.
Now, there’s a study from Australia that’s found that for men, being taller can translate into earning a better salary. Being about 2.5 inches above the norm could be worth as much as 950 Australian dollars (roughly 760 US dollars) a year.
The authors of the study used information from the 2006 and 2007 results of the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA). They looked at both men and women and, although there was a finding that taller women earned more money as well, the results weren’t as strong for the women as they were for the men.
The researchers also looked at other body issues, such as weight and body mass index (BMI) and these didn’t make as much a difference in salary as did height.
Interestingly, the researchers found that the Australian wage/height difference was actually lower than in other places, such as the United States and the United Kingdom.
