Are you a fan of insects? Are you also a fan of adventure games? How about if you had an adventure game that had main characters that WERE insects? Would you be in heaven? Would you play the game? What if you had two choices on the gaming platform in which to play this new game? Would you play it for the PC or would you take it on the road with you on your Nintendo DS?

Well, if you answer yes to any of the questions above, and it doesn’t even matter if you don’t like the insects, you’ll probably love this game that is being published by Gamecock Media (which is the strangest name for a publisher, EVER. By the way, click on the link to Gamecock and watch the video. What the hell?) and developed by Crackpot Entertainment. The name of the game shall be called Insecticide and in it, you are a bad assed detective who just also happens to be an insect. And it shall be coming to you for the PC and the Nintendo DS. This publisher is smart… I think that if you’re going to develop a game for the PC, then you should definitely consider putting it on the DS. Why? Because the DS has a big market for adventure games. Who loves Nintendo? I DO!

Here’s the story from Gamecock’s site:

Insecticide is a hard-boiled, fast-shooting detective game set in a festering future city where bugs have evolved as the planet’s dominant race. A murder at the powerful Nectarola soft drink company leads police from the Insecticide Squad on a bug hunt through the city’s seedy underbelly, and into a mystery of epic proportions. Join Detective Chrys Liszt and partner Roachy Caruthers on the case as they become entangled in a web of crime in this 3rd-person shooter/detective game. It’s an action-adventure in the truest sense of the word, immersing players in cinematic combat levels, as well as a story-based detective investigation. Use Chrys’ unique insect abilities, a range of creative bug weaponry, and old-fashioned street smarts to solve the case and uncover a shocking secret, ultimately bringing the mighty boot of justice down hard on the city’s infestation of crime.

Mike, over at FPSRantings will be happy, because it’s an adventure AND a 3rd person shooter. How the hell does that work? Oh, I guess we will FIND OUT now won’t we??

The game is due to come out during the holiday season of 2007.

Looks like a great game. I can’t wait to be a bug and shoot other bugs, or, do I get to shoot humans?

  2. Mike says:

Egad, it looks great! I can’t wait to get it. The art design is quirky (reminds me of Psychonauts).

The best part is, the game will come out for the PC and the DS. Either way, I get to play Insecticide. I will get both, that’s for sure.

I just hope it’s good. I’ve never heard of the developer. :P

  3. Amber says:

I haven’t heard of them either… but there are a lot of good games out there by people that were once new to the game world themselves!

  4. Mike says:

Amen to that. Infinity Ward, makers of Call of Duty comes to mind. Sorry, I’m spouting FPS games here. :P

  5. gnome says:

FPS in an adventure blog? Oh, dear… what’s the world coming to? :)

  6. Mike says:

You’ll be surprised with the results of certain genre combinations, gnome. ;) Take System Shock 2 for example. It’s shown in a first-person perspective, but there are adventure elements in it.

I’m guessing Bioshock would be similar.

  7. gnome says:

Ah, yes… System Shock 2. Brilliant game… Same thing with Deus Ex and the latest Cthulhu offering… But they weren’t proper FPS fare, were they?

  8. Mike says:

No, they weren’t, and that’s the beauty of it. ;) Gives the game more flavor. Sometimes, the FPS formula needs a kick in the pants hehe.
