Installation of Virtual Server on Home Premium

I wrote about problems encountered while installing Virtual Server 2005 in Windows Vista Home Premium. After research and testing, the following things should be set in Internet Information Services:
Directory Browsing should be enabled
ISAPI and CGI Restrictions should allow ASP and ASP.NET Services
Disable Anonymous Authentication
Windows Authentication should be used
As I went through IIS there was no option for Windows Authentication and thought I need to install it via Windows On and Off feature under “Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features”; but since it was not available either, I found out that this feature was only available in Windows Vista Business, Ultimate and Enterprise.
That makes sense, Windows Vista Home Premium is for home operations where programs installed focus on media and entertainment. Apparently the Windows Vista comparison chart does not list things like features for different services like Windows Authentication.
Unless you have access to Windows Vista Enterprise, your next best option is Windows Business. Windows Ultimate is also a great option considering it contain all features from Home, Home Premium, and Business.
More on Windows Vista Premium here.

I upgraded from Home Basic to Home Premium for installing MS Virtual Server 2005 Standard Edition to practise…Now i need to upgrade to Business Edition of Vista???All i am trying to do here is just install VS and practise after hosting a couple of Guest machines…As a home User dont i deserve this…Now after upgrading vista business edition no assurance that MS would ask me to get VS Enterprise..I have ended up spending atleast $1500…Now the best option i think is to take this Vista crap out of my box and put XP which will make things simple…Any comments MS???
Why use Virtual Server? Are you developing from a host. I think you can install just the Virtual PC for the premium software. The UI is better and is for development and practice. I use the Virtual Server when I am hosting a Active Directory or using it as a SharePoint server, but then again, I don’t access it that much and have either Virtual PC as a development machine connecting to Virtual Server.
Have you also looked into the free VMWare edition?
I havent looked into the VMWare but the reason why i wanted to go for Virtual Server is because i am trying to install a 2 Node Cluster to practise which is not possible in VirtualPC(SCSI Drive Configuration is not possible)…Is it possible in VMWare???
