Intel’s fourth quarter growth streak has finally ended, thanks to a sluggish economy and dwindling CPU sales. The data came from iSuppli which notes that Intel sales and market share has dropped, to the delight of AMD.

AMD has lost to Intel on market shares for three quarters in 2008, but was able to overtake Intel in the first quarter of 2009. iSuppli says that AMD has increased their allocation of global microprocessor revenues because of their strong performance in microprocessor areas led by their notebook division.
Intel’s market share dropped by 2.5 percent while AMD was almost the beneficiary of this loss by increasing their market share by 2.3 percent.
AMD is definitely cheaper than Intel and most users wouldn’t need a high-powered CPU especially when they spend 90% of their time on Microsoft Office, Excel or Powerpoint presentations.
