Just a quick pointer that Aaron, from cubeslacker.com, interviewed me. The whole monstrosity is over here. There’s even a picture of my dog Freaudeaux (Frodo) and me!

  1. Brad says:

In you interview, you mentioned that you had participated in career coaching. Do you have any recommendations of coaches or ideas on selecting coaches?

  2. Bren says:

It’s been a while, but I think I worked with Waldron & Co. If it wasn’t them, it was a firm just like them.

They did a fine job, though from my perspective, the best service they provided was just the opportunity to get out of my house and have some dedicated time for doing that kind of work.

It’s nothing you couldn’t do on your own, but there was value in having a structured process. In my case, I had two or three all-day sessions with a group of people in similar situations. We took personality assessments, etc. and matched those results with particular types of work. It was helpful to be able to think in new ways about where and what kind of work I wanted to do.

  3. A fun interview to read and a really good-looking dog. No place to leave a comment, though. What’s up with that?

On a different subject, could you please put your picture back on your blog? Even though it was just from the back, I really liked seeing a real person slacking.

  4. Bren says:

Marianne, I don’t think the cubeslacker.com site is a blog…more like a regular website. I agree, though, they should get comments implemented.

A picture of me? I’ll see what I can dig up. It’ll probably just get buried in the about section, though…

  5. I don’t know what it means that you have put an icon in place of your picture, Bren. Have you become an icon?

  6. Bren says:

Why yes, yes I have. :-)

C’mon, you don’t like the icon? I think it tells the story better than that picture of me leaning back in the chair. Besides, that’s not my office window anymore. In fact, my new office doesn’t even have a window!

  7. I think so, too!

It is a very cool icon. What if you put your picture in the same pose that we could see by clicking on the icon?

  8. Jeffrey says:

I like the new look. I must say the old look was a bit more personal, but this is very clean and professional. I guess it depends on what you are going for.

    I enjoyed the interview too.

  9. Aaron says:

Glad you guys liked the interview on CubeSlacker. I think it’s a great one :) I’m interested in your comments about being able to leave comments (I used the word comment a lot there, didn’t I ;) on the site. I think I can add that feature to the site. Do people think that is a good thing to have? Also – thanks to Mr. SlackerManager for the interview.

  10. Definitely need comments! It makes it feel like you matter to the person posting. And that makes you want to come back again.

  11. glasskitsune says:

Hey Bren, isn’t the end bit in the interview a bit altruistic? What about the joys of having minions?
And yes, Aaron, I think it’s always more entertaining to have a comment option. But maybe that’s just because I like to mouth off.

  12. Bren says:

Yeah, I guess it can be seen as altruistic, but that’s really my point of view. Managers ought to serve.

I don’t really like the term “minions” when talking about real people (and those real people read this blog), so I don’t use it. I know my spot on the org chart is higher than other folks. Even so, I just figure I’ve got work to do, just like them and we’re all striving toward the same goals.

  13. glasskitsune says:

All in Jest. But a few of us ‘minions’ find the term amusing.
