iPhone Making Its Way To Asia

Several Asian countries will formally have iPhones in the coming months. SingTel, Globe, Bharti Airtel and Optus have all signed an agreement with Apple to provide the iPhone in their respective markets.

Boy.. it’s a good thing that Globe’s customer service was awful just this month. My mom almost got an N95 from them. Good thing they ran out of stock. So she’ll wait for the iPhone instead.

So I guess in the Philippines, Globe won out. Too bad I’m on the competing network and I’m locked in till 2009.

According to this Fortune article, SingTel inked the deal with Apple and the other providers are telcos that SingTel has partnerships with. SingTel owns a part of each of the providers. Due to this, SingTel is the biggest mobile phone provider in Asia, outside of the People’s Republic of China.

Ah… finally we’ll be officially seeing the iPhone here in Manila.

Jayvee over at Cellphone9 also wrote about this.

Here’s the press release from Globe.
