Quick note: I would just like to point out that I have been sick the past couple of days (and still am), but I wanted to return to write up the articles on some important iPhone news in the event you missed it.
Although Steve Jobs said the iPhone/iPod Touch SDK (Software Developers Kit) would be released in February 2008. Electronista is reporting that “reliable sources” have given them information stating some select companies have been given access to “rough versions” of the iPhone SDK.
The exact details of the “rough” kit are not known, but it is said that it bares resemblance to Google’s OpenSocial in the sense it’s a “middle man” between the developer and the iPhone.
In related news, Fortune interviewed the Apple Vice President of Hardware Product Marketing (That’s a mouthful) Greg Joswiak on the iPhone and iPod.
Joswiak made an interesting statement, found below, within the interview.
One of the things Steve (Jobs) talked about in his open letter is something Nokia’s doing, which is requiring a digital signature. That way if there’s something wrong with an application, you have a way to track it back to where it came from.
The importance of this quote is that it brought digital signatures into the light again. It’s highly likely that Apple will choose to go the digital signature route to protect the platform.
At the moment, my opinion of digital signatures is up in the air. I really will have to see how Apple implements them. Your thoughts?
