According to this press release, Apple is upgrading the battery life and screen of the iPhone. From the initial 4 hour talk-time as previously stated by Apple last January it is now going to be 8 hours. Apart from the estimated talk-time, Apple has also said that it will get 6 hours of internet use, 7 hours of video playback, 24 hours of audio playback and 210 hours of standby time.
Apart from the battery life the screen will also be upgraded. When June 29 comes the iPhone will be shipping with an optical grade glass surface for better scratch resistance and clarity.
My thoughts… Usually manufacturers tend to exaggerate the battery life of their phones. So I’m looking at around 20% decrease in real-life performance. 6.4 hours of talk time looks pretty decent to me. I hope I’m not wrong about this one and at worst it should perform at 80% of what they stated. If so, then it’s good enough for me. Since the iPhone doesn’t have a user-replaceable battery, it should have great battery life. Otherwise it’s useless.
As for the glass surface, that sounds awesome. Let’s see how well the glass holds. I hope it doesn’t crack easily.
