A Red Flag on the Net?
A Nanny on the Net is proud of its search engine ranking, stating: “A major benefit is that we are nationally promoted and listed with the top search engines. See how high we are ranked on Google!” Yet when you search for A Nanny on the Net as suggested, the top ranked documents are consent orders against the company and founder Amy C. Hardison, for violating franchise laws and registration requirements:
ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEEDING BEFORE THE SECURITIES COMMISSIONER OF MARYLAND
STATEMENT OF CHARGES AND NOTICE OF INTENT TO ISSUE AN ORDER TO CEASE AND DESIST

Reading your post, I couldn’t help going to Google and type in “A nanny on the net”. The first 2 results I got were the company’s website and results #3 and 4 were the one you mentioned. That’s bad.
As a marketing/seo guy, I had a very quick look at their site and I can tell right away that they will never ever change their rankings if they don’t do drastic changes to the site.
For example, I looked for a nanny in my little California town (beautiful Encinitas) and gave me a page for Beverly hills nanny. Hmm. I tried again looking for a nanny in Escondido and it showed results for Richmond….
If I’m a nanny in Encinitas, I’d be better off starting my own nanny business and have a blog on my own rather than relying on these people to get me new clients.
Sebastien:
An SEO question for you (or anyone else). Scroll to the bottom of their intro page and their home page.
Doesn’t that old school keyword-loading actually work against them in the modern day?
I thought that worked 5 or 10 years ago, but scored against them now.
OMG, I hadn’t noticed this! As you say, this black hat seo technique worked maybe 10 years ago (before google, I guess) but now search engines can recognize right away that it is keyword stuffing. I’m surprised their page gets a google pange rank of 4/10, which is not too bad, considering how “seo unfriendly” their site is…
