Is It Ever Okay To Throw A Shoe?

At the annual meeting of Fortis, the Belgian-Dutch financial services company, a group of angry shareholders took matters into their own hands. Footwear went flying. The target: the bank’s executives.

A group of shareholders charged toward the bank’s directors who were seated on a stage. Many in the audience chanted ”resign” and threw shoes and coins at the stage. Watch the video:

Fortis was once Belgium’s largest financial services company, but recently the bank’s troubles prompted the Belgian government to provide it with bailout money. Yesterday, Fortis shareholders approved a deal to sell off the bank’s assets to BNP Paribas.

Take a look at the one-year chart for shares of Fortis and you can see why shareholders may be upset, but is it ever okay to throw a shoe at someone?
