Is MarsEdit 2 The Right Blogging Tool For Me?

MarsEdit 2 has been around for awhile, however it’s only now that I’ve gotten around to trying it. I’ve always blogged using the publishing tools of whatever blogging platform my blog has. I’ve gotten tired of that system so I set out to look for a blogging app that will ease the burden.
I’ve heard good things about MarsEdit so I decided to try this out. I downloaded the 30 day trial version of MarsEdit. My first impression was that I loved the simple design of the software. It’s a no frills approach to blogging.
I set up my personal blog for use with MarsEdit. My personal blog is powered by TextPattern. While it’s the most popular blogging tool, MarsEdit had at least decent support for it. There are still some features lacking but it was good enough to start. I didn’t have much problems setting it up.
When it came time to use it with The After Mac, that’s where I had trouble. MarsEdit didn’t want to accept the password for The After Mac. TAM is powered by WordPress and I thought that it was an issue with MarsEdit. So I scoured the forums I belong to and tried to find the answer. I eventually found out that it was an issue with the WordPress installation of TAM. It was fixed by the tech guys at b5 media and I’m now able to blog with MarsEdit.
I haven’t explored all the features of MarsEdit but so far the features that I’m using is great. The editor is simple and easy to use however I’m not so happy that you have to hand code HTML into it and if you want to see the results you need to use the preview option. It’s not a “rich” editor.
The upload and insert images is great as it uploads the images to the server and pastes the code to the blog entry you’re editing.
So far I’m liking MarsEdit. I still have a few weeks before the trial expires. I’ll update you and see if I’ll be purchasing the license.
If you have any experience with MarsEdit, do share it with me. Leave me a comment.
