Jeremy Shockey will limp on over to the Saints

The New York Giants have traded disgruntled Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints, thus reuniting him with first year coach Sean Payton.

“I am excited to join the Saints as they have expressed interest in me,” Shockey said in a statement released by the Saints. “I have had a relationship with Coach Payton and I appreciate what he has done as a head coach. The Saints have a lot of weapons starting with Drew Brees, and I look forward to joining my teammates at training camp. This will be a fun year.”

The Saints agreed to send their second- and fifth-round picks in the 2009 draft to New York in exchange for Shockey, whom they have been coveting since the start of this offseason.

Randy Moss

Hmm, Randy Moss was coming off one of his worst years when joining the Patriots. Randy was a known locker room problem and the Patriots did not know what to expect. You know what happened…

On the field, Moss had one of the greatest seasons of any wide receiver in recent history. He racked up 98 catches for 1,493 yards and an NFL Record 23 touchdown receptions. The Patriots knew they had to get him the football to keep him happy and that’s what they did.

Jeremy Shockey is also coming off a bad season filled with injuries. He, too, has been a locker room problem. Could Jeremy be just as successful for New Orleans with Drew Brees passing to him as Randy was for the Patriots?

Well, nobody knows for sure, but Jeremy is excited and New Orleans not only gets a pass receiver, but a great blocker, too.
