Is There A War For Your Start Page?
Scobleizer has an interesting post titled ‘The War Over Your Start Page’.
This is going to be an interesting series because he is going to talk about many different start pages. This post features an interview with Dan Cohen of Pageflakes. I wrote about Pageflakes here.
One of the most interesting things in this Scobleizer post is the comments. Most people who left comments have their ‘homepage’ set to blank. It certainly does mean faster loading and you can immediately go where you want to go. What do you use for a ‘homepage’?

I leave mine blank. Like you said, it’s faster and easier. The first site I usually visit is my personalised Google homepage though.
I lovez Protopage mit Firefoxen!
It’s really fast!
My homepage tabs are: 1) my personal blog, 2) my b5media blog, 3) my Google calendar, and 4) my NewsgatorOnline RSS reader.
Some load faster than others but I have a fast connection so nothing takes too terribly long.
I like Netvibes but am interested in trying out YourMinis more. I wish everyone supported OPML export, YourMinis does I believe. What I really want is the simple functionality that can be found at OriginalSignal – mark items new since my last visit in a different color. It’s a little thing but saves so much time! I haven’t found a configurable startpage that will do that for me :(
I agree about the little things, Marshall. They might ’seem’ little but they really add a LOT of functionality.
I remember the days of black and white (some were green and white) monitors. I simply could not go back to that – color really is important!
The first time I saw red and blue on my ‘dumb’ mainframe terminal I thought I had died and gone to heaven! ;)
