Is Windows Vista Basic Edition Really Useless?

I have previously written about the different Windows Vista Editions and the lowest one you could buy is the basic edition which according to Lance Ulanoff of PCMag is pointless.

I agree that the feature set of Windows Vista Basic Edition is just a marketing tool for OEM to attract customers and think they could afford the latest version of Windows for less than $60 but the operating system they are buying is no better than previous versions which allows you to surf, office documents, and basic stuff, etc.

Is it that useless?

Maybe for power users it is, but for the typical Parents who are just happy to have a new look on their newly purchased machine Windows Vista Basic Edition suits their fulfillment level.

A higher and more expensive edition might be an overkill for a lot of folks.

    doesn’t windows vista basic have a limited installation cap of about 2 re-installs? this by itself is a huge bummer already.
