The holidays are coming, probably faster than you want them to. There are very few retail or wholesale small businesses that are not affected by the end of year holiday rush, either directly or indirectly.

It’s better to prepare now, than to scramble, and not meet your customer’s expectations later. Here are just a few things you can do to get yourself and your business prepared for the holiday rush:
- Take a look at last years books, or notes to see what you sold, and how much you sold.
- Decide if you’ll need extra help through the holidays, it might be a good idea to get them started now to give them a little training before you’re too busy to train.
- Do a little targeted advertising to make sure people who are looking for what you have to offer know you are there and ready to serve them.
- Brainstorm to come up creative spins you can put on your product or niche to make it more appealing to holiday shoppers out spending their money.
- Offer special incentives like door buster specials, or holiday chocolates for example to holiday customers.
- If you have a retail store, make sure you set the mood. Decorate for the holidays, or play some tunes to get guests in the shopping mood. Even if you just have a website, you can decorate it for Christmas and put your holiday finest on the front page to invite people in.
- Make sure your staff understands that customer service comes first in your small business.
