Is your home office working for you?

AS my family and I start exploring options to move from Albany, NY, we’re looking at a ton of houses.

It’s great fun, until I realize,” Hmm… where will my office go?”

I know many people use their kitchen table as the starting point when creating their business, but for me, that just wouldn’t be possible for a couple of reasons:

  1. I have too much ’stuff’ I need to use a table. I need my own space.
  2. The kitchen would distract me, as ‘d be interrupted b thinking about food, and cooking, etc.

my home office is greatSo I’m looking for a home with a space for my office. Now it doesn’t have to be a private little hole, but something where I can keep my papers and books, as well as space for me to work quietly.

I love my home office now (Here’s a photo of me with the girls in it), and am sad to see it go soon. But I look forward to the challenge of creating a new, more organized space.

What do you think about your home office space?  Do you love it? Send some photos and I’ll post them!

You want a photo of my disaster area? Not happening. But for the most part it does work for me.

Probably the biggest challenge is sharing the desk with my husband’s computer. Our chairs are close enough together to be a problem if one of us needs to get out. Especially his, as his computer has the corner. I look forward to having room for a second desk someday.

I love that my office is in a room that looks out over the back yard. Very convenient for keeping an eye or ear on the kids at play outside. The room is also just a part of the house, no door separating it from everything else. With a 6 year old, a 3 year old and one more on the way, it’s nice to be accessible.

Well, most of the time. Some days it’s a pain.

My office is what should be the dining room. I am out in the open, which is good and bad. I face the front of the house – which I like so I can see if someone is coming to the door. My shelves and filing cabinets are all close at hand, and the U shaped desk gives me the feeling of an “office space”. The openness of the room gives me “room to breath” but when my girls are home from school it can be distracting. Thankfully wireless allows me to grab a laptop and hide in my bedroom if need be.
