It all boiled down to penalty kicks…

After 120′ of play, the fate of Argentina and Germany rested on penalty kicks. It has been said that Germany can win the match if it comes down to it.

  1. Oliver Neuville [GER] puts the ball in the lower-right corner.
  2. Julio Cruz [ARG] shoots a top-left precision goal.
  3. Michael Ballack [GER] shoots an almost perfect copy of Cruz’s shot.
  4. Roberto Ayala [ARG] easily saved by Jens Lehmann [GER].
  5. Lukas Podolski [GER] goes lower-right.
  6. Maxi Rodriguez [ARG] tucked in the lower-left corner, too good.
  7. Tim Borowski [GER] shoots to Argentina’s Leonardo Franco’s left while he goes the opposite way.
  8. Esteban Cambiasso [ARG] saved by the German, decides the game.

And so they did.

Final score at full time is 1:1 and after PSO,4:2, in favour of Germany. It’s the host country who moves on to the semi-final.

I take my hat off to the Argentines, they played a hell of a game.

yeah, i really wanted the argentinians to win…i wanted an argentina-brazil final but with the way they played i think they deservered to lose…zidane was a god that day

on the other hand i think argentina deserved to move ahead…

    well here’s to the semi’s

  2. Sasha says:

So I heard. France dominated the game.

I did want an argentina-brazil final, too! But now that they’re both out, it doesn’t seem to matter who’ll be in the final. A lot have been speculating it’ll be Germany this year.

  3. hochi says:

i don’t want to speculate anymore because i really have no idea..although i will root for portugal – i like the way they play although i am torn between portugal and seeing zidane go out in all the glory he deserves….
germany and italy will be interesting but i really think germany has the inside track to win it all

  4. Sasha says:

Currently keeping tabs on the Germany vs Italy game right now. We will see if it will prove your last statement right. :)

  5. hochi says:

    dead wrong again!!! hahahahahahaha

  6. Sasha says:

They keep surprising us, eh? Can’t imagine what will happen in the POR v FRA match.. I’m supporting the French. ;)

  7. hochi says:

well it’s france-italy…i’m a neutral here but i would lean more on the frence because of zidane…i really think he is one of the best of all time and has been my favorite ever since he was with junventus…so i would like to see him leave football in style

  8. Sasha says:

So would I! Especially since this is the only reason why he came out of his previous “early” retirement. :)

  9. hochi says:

well he left in style alright! head butt to the chest after almost scoring on a header and a “cajones as big as melons” penalty kick….can’t beat that!

  10. Sasha says:

Hahaha. It will definitely go down in history, what he did. Classic!

  1. [...] I’m also rooting for England and boy, was I down when I heard that Owen’s injured and had to leave Germany. And it was also frustrating when Portugal beat them in the Quarter-final. Friggin’ PSOs! First, it was Argentina losing to Germany, now, it’s the Brits. Heh. [...]

  2. [...] Final score at full time was 3:0 in favour of Italy, which is quite obvious. They now move on to the semi-final, playing against Germany. [...]
