It’s A Good Thing Sweden’s Neutral

A recent commercial for Swedish skin care products from Apoliva has people in that Scandinavian country running scared. The ad features Swedish supermodel Adina Fohlin standing in an assortment of weather conditions while a Swedish folk song plays in the background. The commercial ends with the tagline, “Apoliva — for Swedish conditions.”

You’d think it would be difficult to be scared by a supermodel unless you were the only person at a party with celery sticks and cocaine, but somehow Adina has become the stuff of Swedish nightmares.

Adina Fohlin is scary … and not just to girls with body image issues…

Over 100,000 people have joined the Facebook group called ““I Am Scared of the Girl in the Apoliva Commercial” after Swedish student Anders Hammas formed the site and commented:

“Apoliva has begun to run a commercial that is frightening. A woman singing a Nordic/Swedish folk song in freezing rain with lightning. I am creating this group for those of us who need somewhere to seek support and talk things out. It’s only a matter of time before it creeps into our dreams and terrorises us in our sleep.”

It’s a good thing Sweden is a neutral country because they’d be absolutely no good in a war, anyway. If a supermodel makes you quake in your snowshoes, the sight of a highly-trained, heavily-armed enemy soldier is probably going to make you run squealing back to the nearest fjord.

Here’s the ad that’s petrified hundreds of thousands of Swedes:

If the Swedes think that’s scary, we probably shouldn’t send over the subtitled version of the child horror film The Orphan. That movie would put the whole country into therapy.

Esther, the little girl in The Orphan would scare the bejeezus out of UFC champ Brock Lesnar.

I saw that movie two weeks ago and I’m still sleeping with the light on. And I’m tough as nails — ask anyone in the Springville High chess club.

Now, that’s freakin’ scary…
