It’s Memorial Day, Are You Working?

It’s a national holiday in the US. Are you working? I’m not judging. I’ll be working some today too. Does it seem to you, as it does to me, that we’re technology is allowing forcing us all to work more and at all hours?

flag_dog_randysonofrobertflickrFor me, this is a huge advantage because I rarely have to be in a physical location at a certain time and that allows me to pursue a certain level of balance between work and parenting. But sometimes, it is hard to turn it all off. If I’m not doing actual work, I at least do my planning for the week every Sunday night. And many evenings you can find me taking care of lesser tasks in front of the Real Housewives. But I have a flexible schedule. I’ve got to fit my work in around everything else.

I’m curious about the rest of you. Tell us if  you’re self-employed or working for someone else, and whether or not you’ll be working today. Or just hanging out with your dog.

  1. Yes, I’m working … but no one should feel sorry for me! I’m self employed & love that I set my own hours. Since my 4 year old daughter is home w/ me, during the day I’m hanging with her, so I fit work in during the early AM, late nights, bits during the day … and don’t really have “vacation” days because I take so much time during the regular days to play with my daughter. Frankly, I rarely “need” a vacation, since I enjoy my life! :)

  2. I worked too, and you’re right – the ability to set your own schedule more than makes up for those odd hours working a holiday. Right now I’m off to yoga class – in the middle of the ‘work’ day!
