Business Channel Theme Day: Back to School

If you have seen You’ve Got Mail, you know that September is the time for “bouquets of sharpened pencils.” It’s Back to School time, and the B5Media Business Channel has some  great Back to School thoughts and advice.

Mark Wade over at Work Boxers is inviting participation as he explores thinking while sleeping. He says, “I’m willing to imagine that a change in thought process to something more along these lines might be invaluable help to someone back at
school or about to return to classes. What do you think?” Head on over and give him your feedback.

Can being “special” really ruin your child’s life? Miki Saxon at Leadership Turn thinks so. She points out that “Parents need to take the time to teach their children, whatever their age, one of the most important things they need to know for all their life—that although they’re special to their family and themselves, they’re not special to anyone else, except as a result of their words, actions and deeds.”

Back to School isn’t just for the kids. Jim Norton at Small Business Boomers points out the importance of lifelong learning — and how it can be good for business — for this month’s Business Channel Theme Day.

The most wonderful time of the year?  As she gets her pencils sharpened, Kelly Phillips Erb, the taxgirl, considers the valuation of private education – and the lack of a corresponding tax deduction.  Is it good tax policy to say no to school?

Darlene McDaniel at Interview Chatter talks about how a college degree can help you out. She says that, “Today if you want to go back to school, there are ways to work and study. With the growth of online learning, there really is no excuse for not completing your degree. Especially if you need it to compete for the jobs you want.”

Now that youngsters are back in school, parents who operate home businesses, as well as those who shop, will find some changes in their lives and businesses. Stop by Home Biz Notes, where Mary Emma Allen shares five ways you might be affected.

“Attending school teaches you important skills in a short span of time that could otherwise take you a lot longer to learn,” says Marical Ferrer-Custodio at Property Crossroads.  “However, a student’s success cannot be measured in having high grades alone, but in his overall growth as an individual.  People can be successful irregardless of how well they performed in school. In real estate, the best examples are the equally successful and famous:  Donald Trump and Barbara Corcoran.”
