Were you aware that you can’t burn CD’s with the latest version of iTunes? That seems to be the case and is confirmed by Jason Powell on his blog.
Update: I originally left out the specific detail of this issue. Unless you have admin rights to your PC, you’re not able to burn CD’s using the new version of iTunes.
I really like his suggestion for a cause behind it all too.
Of course in this case one has to wonder if there isn’t a hidden motive … now that most everyone loves iTunes why not make the PC version of iTunes sucky and thereby perhaps get more people to buy a mac?? Things that make ya go hmmmmmmmmm
I think it’s pretty narrow minded to think that Microsoft is the only evil technology company in the world don’t you think?

I changed the speed it doesn’t work!
I agree revenge on Mr.iTunes
I have been trying to burn a cd on itunes for a while now and i did change it so that i was the administrator and i still cant burn cd’s. The icon just wont show up! HELP ME!
my Itunes 7 will not recognize three different brands of brand new blank cds when i go to burn……i.e. ‘insert blank disc’ message, even though the disc is brand new, unused……..
Yo, thnx robin i reduced the burn speed & it worked straight away ;) YOU OWNED ITUNES
I’ve had my iMac for a few months now and never bothered to burn any CDs until today and found out I couldn’t. I’m not getting any kind of error message, it’s just telling me to insert a blank disc….. And if I try to click the eject button, it doesn’t eject until I close itunes. :( itunes never used to be mean to me before! And I’m the only one that uses this computer, so I would imagine I have administrative rights by default.
Using itunes 8 (Vista) had the same problem – could not burn cds-. I followed “Bryan’s” advice and everything WORKS now. Not need to download or install anything.
Thanks Bryan!

Ok guys. I think I figured this out. I’m the only account on the computer, but for some reason iTunes didn’t read me as it. To fix this, right click iTunes -> Properties -> Security (tab) -> Highlight your account name (whatever you named your user name) -> Click Edit -> Click your name again -> Then click the box that says “Full Control”. Works for me… Hope it works for you guys!
iTunes will not let me burn CDs… it just keeps failing and I don’t know why. I’ve tried everything!
I just went into iTunes and authorized my computer – (iMac running leopard) I’m now burning away with no problems. I would have sworn that my desktop had been authorized, but maybe not – anyway for the folks who keep gettting the “please insert blank disk” I think this is the fix. Thanks
ok, so i don’t know if i’m missing something or the newest (8) version of itunes is different. but i went to try bryan’s suggestion and i don’t have a security tab when i right click on itunes. i just have a general tab and a shortcut tab. any other way i can try this? i can’t burn a regular old cd in itunes currently. i am able to burn SOME songs as mp3s, but not all of them. it’s frustrating and even more so because apple will NOT take responsibility for this glitch.
i am desperately looking for answers why i cant burn the music that i own onto the cds that I OWN. and from looking theres no answer yet? could it be towards the issues with piacy and copy right infingement who knows but to put it lightly im annoyed.
Confused!?! I have itunes version 7 on my PC I have always been able to burn CD’s from itunes and now it starts to burn and then cancels the burn stating that there was an unexpected error (4850) and ruins the disc. This is very frustrating since I purchased the music and just want a copy for my car. I am trying to burn new songs that have not been burned before so they haven’t reached the max number of burns. But I am looking for suggestions because the itunes website is helpless!
I also have itunes version 7 on my PC and I am having the same problem. I tried to update it to version 8 to see if it would fix the problem but it didnt and it keeps on saying that i dont have the software to burn cds and i dont know what to do. please help
Ok, I have Itunes 8.0.2 (20) and I was also very frustrated that I couldn’t burn MP3 files into a CD.
I have a MAC, so here it is what worked for me:
Once you have your Playlist, insert your blank CD, then click on that playlist and click BURN on bottom right, once that menu shows up click on “Audio CD” if you click MP3 CD, it won’t play the songs on any CD device, just on your computer.
I hope this works for some of you :)
I have Itunes 8.0.2 and I have never had a problem until one day I went to burn a CD and the burn settings now pops up every time and after it is done checking the playlist it says there is not enough disk space on the CD. I have tried three different types of CD’s and the most it will burn is 3 songs on CD. I have reinstalled my Itunes I am on a Macbook and I need help!! Any suggestions!?
I can’t believe this problem has been going on for TWO DAMN YEARS: I just have to leave my comment here as well.
I’m one of the ones who was able to burn cds then I updated software to 8.1.0.52 now I get the error saying “Disc burner or software not found”.
I’ve tried every solution suggested above to no avail. OS WinXP. How is it possible that iTunes does not care about this? I’ve tried burning from the original download, from a playlist made from an original cd, from a playlist arranged within iTunes. None of it works! This is disgusting!
My itunes will not let me burn a CD. I’ve tried Bryan’s advice, switching from audio to mp3 to data, different brands…etc and it will not burn. It will let me burn from media, but then i cannot burn songs i downloaded from itunes. It just says “unknown errror 2131.” Ugh. What should i do.
I have tried all the best brands of CD but none work. they start burning fine but then they all fail. i have tried every speed on itunes 7 and it doesnt work.
can anyone help me??
i can burn cds off of my itunes list that is on my computer. but i cant burn cds off of my actually ipod itself, which is hella annoying considering all of my songs are on my ipod and not my computer due to getting a new computer. this is stupid…. -_-
Sounds like you need to authorize the new computer within iTunes. Just look for authorize I believe within the iTunes help and you should be on your way.
Okay.
So I’m trying to burn this CD that has 20 of my fave songs on it, but it WONT FREAKING WORK.
like, I’ll press the “burn CD” button. Then it will say “Checking Media”, but after that, it will say that the CD isn’t blank.
wtf??
IT IS BLANK
I tried a lot of the speeds but none of them do anything differently.
I’m almost certain that my comp. is authorized.
And I don’t want to do the MP3 thingy because then I can only play the CD on my comp and I don’t wanna do that… :c
HALPP
:(:(:( SAME!!!
