The pros generally haven’t fared to well this 2009 WSOP, but a handful are turning heads. Phil Ivey leads that group. Fresh off his Duece to Seven championship, Ivey is now 11 of 79 in Event #13, a pure No Limit Hold’em $2,500 buy-in tournament. The tournament started with 1,088 players but as things draw to an end, it is the dangerous Phil Ivey sitting in a great spot. With every player that gets knocked off, Phil Ivey’s chances of winning multiply whereas other players just outlast the eliminated.
Pro Huck Seed is even closer to a bracelet in the Mixed Event #12. He is currently 3 of 5 with Todd Brunson just eliminated in 6th. The Mixed Event started with 194 players.
Mega star Daniel Negreanu is also left in a thin field in the Limit Holdem/Six Handed Event, but he is a below average chip stack and 39 of 367 remain before a champion is crowned.
In case Ivey gets close, has anybody won back to back events before? That would be another nice feather in Ivey’s cap.
