Jake Peavy Injury Update – Ankle

Jake Peavy has had a very busy 2009 baseball season. Prior to the campaign, he was involved in a number of trade rumors. Then a few weeks ago, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox — however, he decided to void the trade and stay with the San Diego Padres.
The latest turn in Peavy’s season is an ankle injury that will keep him off the mound for at least four weeks. Following an MRI, Peavy has been diagnosed with a torn right tibialis tendon.
He will stay in a walking boot for one month, so it’s unknown how long he will end up missing. A good guess would be that he’ll return after the 2009 MLB All-Star Game.
On the season, Peavy has a 3.97 ERA with a record of 6-6. In May, Peavy was very good — compiling a 2.13 ERA in six starts, while striking out 52 batters in 42.1 innings.
Once Peavy is healthy again, expect trade rumors to heat back up.
