Jamaal Charles has the Best Day Ever

Have you seen Jamaal Charles’ numbers for today? 290 yards. That’s impressive.

But even more impressive is the fact that of those 290 yards, 216 were in a single quarter. Texas just kept giving Charles the ball during the fourth quarter, and he just kept running right past the Cornhusker defensive players. Damn. Imagine if the Longhorns would have figured out earlier that the run defense for Nebraska is horrible. Had Charles done similarly throughout the whole game, he would have had over 850 yards!

Ok, so that’s unlikely. Even if they woudl have given him the ball every single game, and even if Nebraska really would have let him get away with it, I think Charles would have died of exhaustion first. But whatever. Over 200 yards in a single quarter is enough to make Charles “the man.” At least for now. I don’t think he’ll have any problem getting free shots and women tonight. Woo hoo!

But this is a football blog, not a guilty pleasures blog, so let’s talk about the game a bit, shall we? Texas got on the board early with a field goal by Ryan Bailey. Then they let Nebraska play for awhile. The Cornhuskers had 10 points on the board going into halftime, and made another touchdown in the third quarter. At the end of the third, the score was 17 – 9 Nebraska. All of the Texas fans were like “What the hell are you doing? Stop passing, start running the F*in’ ball!” So they did. And Charles led the team to a win with three touchdowns.

This win was also significant for the Longhorns as it was head coach Mack Brown’s 100th win with Texas. So congrats Coach Brown too!

Big day for Texas, even if a win over Nebraska isn’t that big of an accomplishment. We might see them move up a few spots, though, depending on how the other top 20 teams do!

I watched JC throughout his highschool career and 200 yards, even 300 was ordinary, but then Texas coaching ruined this young man’s career the way he shared duties his freshman year and subsequet years. To hand JC the ball nearly on the line of scrimmage just to star Vince was criminal. Jamaal needs to run from the “I” or given a running start and the longer the game goes and the more he runs, the stonger he gets. I still don’t believe the coaching staff understand this even with the Nebraska game and he will be held to mediocracy when he should have been at the top of Heisman consideration each of the past years. 2007 is mostly wasted. Had Texas used JC at 33+ carries a game from the “I” his fresh year it would have made Vinve even more effective and made the #1 title a breeze. I know I sound like a homer, but I have been moaning for the misues of Jamaal for 3 years now. I know he is capable of 200+ every game if they let the man run.
