NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Who is this masked man?
Want to start an instant argument?
Just bring up the fact that Brett Favre is better than Peyton Manning.
If that doesn’t work, reach back for an old timer and state that Paul Hornung is better than LaDainian Tomlinson.
Today we are going to figure out who is going to be the Most Valuable Rookie! Our gage will be potential Fantasy Football points. Can you guess who is number 1?
Now to complete the process you need some arguments in your favor!
The best part? There is no right answer.
We love this kind of stuff.
So today we turn to Michael Fabiano of NFL.com, one of my favorite Fantasy Football writers.
Michael is going list the top 20 Most Valuable Rookies. Keep in mind this is for Fantasy Football rankings.
Have you figured out who number 1 is?
As the title says above, it is not JaMarcus Russell, Calvin Johnson, or Brady Quinn.
JaMarcus is number 13 and Brady is number 17. Heck, (can one say heck in a family oriented column, well, already said, so here goes again), heck, even Ted Ginn Jr. is ahead of them at number 11.
11. Ted Ginn, WR, Miami: Ginn possesses incredible speed and potential, but his status is in doubt due to an injured foot that has been diagnosed as a Lisfranc sprain. The Dolphins hope he can compete with Marty Booker and become a starter, but that might be put on hold for now. source
Maybe he is listed so high to just make Dolphin fans feel a little more secure. :)
So who is number 1?
oh, oh, oh, it has got to be Calvin Johnson.
Nope. He is number 2. Michael thinks he needs a season under his belt.
NFL Football Timeout to dream Don’t forget your intrepid author is a Lion’s fan and can’t wait for Johnson to line up with Roy Williams (led NFC in yards) on the other side. Just think, when they go to the 4 wides, you will also have Mike Furrey (led NFC in catches) and Shaun McDonald
Aaaahhhh, the answer is so easy. You just wrote about him yesterday. It has to be Adrian Peterson, right?
No, not even close.
Adrian will have to share his carries with Chester Taylor and Chester had 1,200 yards last year.
2. Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota: Peterson has the skills and abilities to be a solid No. 1 back in the world of fantasy football, but the fact that he’ll share carries with incumbent starter Chester Taylor in his first season hurts his value. Still, the former Oklahoma standout will remain a viable No. 3 fantasy runner for owners if he doesn’t need a surgical procedure on his injured collarbone.
Adrian will most likely be a prime time Fantasy player in the future, but not right off.
So before you find me beating your head in with a stick, who is it? Tell me now or suffer greatly!
You would have never guessed. Marshawn Lynch, rookie draft pick of the Buffalo Bills.
1. Marshawn Lynch, RB, Buffalo: The first rookie taken in most seasonal drafts will be Lynch, a versatile runner out of California with terrific hands who will be the favorite to open the regular season as the Bills’ featured tailback. With skill sets similar to those of Joseph Addai, Lynch will be well worth a third- to fourth-round selection as a No. 2 or 3 fantasy runner in most formats.
That is Michael’s pick for number one, Marshawn Lynch of the Bills.
So now you can start that argument…
