JaMarcus Russell, Joe Thomas, Calvin Johnson, Brady Quinn – Who won the draft?

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Calvin shows it is easy when you have big hands

Calvin JohnsonGoing down the draft list and looking at who got what, one thing stands out right away.

The teams that are really bad did really good.

Bring on the Raiders

Oakland needed a leader and a quarterback and they picked up JaMarcus Russell and let go of Randy Moss. Letting go Moss may turn out to be more important.

Randy Moss immediately declared the ‘Moss of old is back!’

Squibster response? HaHahaha hahaha hahahahah are you kidding me?

Is that the Randy Moss who made the Pro Bowl in five of his first six seasons? Or is it the one who was fined $10,000 for pretending to pull down his pants in front of a Green Bay crowd — among other transgressions? source

Anyway, back to the business at hand. JaMarcus is just what the doctor ordered for an Oakland franchise that has fallen into offensive disarray.

Lie downs stand up to be Lions

Matt Millen pulled one over everyone by taking a wide receiver. Were we shocked? How does Matt manage to do it? The Lions actually picked Calvin Johnson.

Anyway, your intrepid author was sure Millen would trade the pick away. Millen was willing, but asked for the world and no team came forth.

So get this, Roy Williams on one side (Pro Bowl), Calvin Johnson on the other side, and Mike Furrey in the slot.

Big deal, Mike Furrey you say? Try 98 receptions in 2006.

Cleveland amazes us all

Perhaps the biggest shocker of the draft was the amazing grab of the Cleveland Browns and Phil Savage. The grabbed Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn, two players ranked in the top 10.

Recently they also signed Jamal Lewis from the Ravens and guard Eric Steinbach.

NFL Football How the Mighty have Fallenduring the draft the ticker showed the Ravens and mentioned the biggest loss of a player was Adalius Thomas and the biggest addition was Willis McGahee. No mention of Jamal Lewis going to Cleveland and here Jamal is a former 2,000 yard in one season rusher!

Not bad, a new guard, new tackle, new quarterback, and new running back.

Cleveland was a terrible offensive team last year averaging only 14.9 points per game. Romeo Crennel is desperately trying to hold on to his job.

The Cardinals will fly

The Arizona Cardinals already had a running back, Edgerrin James, and a quarterback, Matt Leinart. What they needed were linemen and so they went after them.

After getting over the disappointment of not getting Joe Thomas, they were able to pick up Levi Brown for the offensive line and Alan Branch for the defensive line.

This will allow the Cardinals to better able to compete on both sides of the ball. Definitely a good draft for them.

For once, the Poor got Richer! On paper, at least.

NFL Football Fan Question Nobody knows for sure until that first snap this fall, but did your team do well in the draft?

As always, any NFL Football related comments are welcome.
