James Blake Upset in ITC Final
Kei Nishikori won the first ATP title for Japan in 16 years when he upset James Blake in the final of the International Tennis Championships. Nishikori lost the first set 6-3 but stormed back in the second, taking it 6-1, and then he closed out the match with a 6-4 third set.
Nishikori was a qualifier for the event and is ranked 244th. The 18-year-old’s first ATP title win is expected to move him up to 122nd.
“I still can’t believe it that I beat James Blake,” said Nishikori. “I’ve only seen him on TV.”
Well, kid. You’re the one on television now.
