James Davis Injury Update – Shoulder

Prior to the start of the 2009 NFL season, James Davis was pointed to as a sleeper rookie. During preseason play, Davis had very good stats and there were whispers that he could push Jamal Lewis out of his job as the starting running back for the Cleveland Browns.
It didn’t work out that way. Prior to Week 1, Davis got injured in an auto accident. Then during Week 1, Davis hurt his shoulder. Now, that shoulder injury has cause the Browns to put Davis on IR — ending his rookie season.
In the two weeks he was able to play, Davis had nine carries for 15 yards. He also caught four passes for five yards.
This news is another blow to the Browns, who are also dealing with an injury to Jamal Lewis. As it stands, Jerome Harrison will likely be the team’s starting running back this weekend.
For the 0-3 Browns, they’ll need one of their running backs to step up to avoid an embarrassing season. That RB, however, won’t be James Davis.
