James Singleton has decided to stay with the Dallas Mavericks. He has told the team that he will accept the qualifying offer that is worth a little bit more than one million dollars. He’ll be entering his second season with Dallas.
Last year, the 28-year-old averaged 5.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in only 14.3 minutes per game. He shot 52.9% from the field, 32.5% on three-pointers and 85.9% at the line.
Singleton began his NBA career with the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2005-06 season. He played a second year with the Clippers but was out of the league during the 2007-08 season.
While Singleton played well last year, it’s difficult figuring out where he’ll get minutes during the 2009-10 campaign. The Mavs have added Shawn Marion, Tim Thomas and Drew Gooden this season — three forwards that will battle for minutes with the 6-foot-8 Singleton.
Another move the Mavs made on Monday was to release Greg Buckner. Buckner was acquired in the trade that brought Marion to Dallas.
