Although it was all but confirmed earlier in the week that Jason Kidd would be returning to the Dallas Mavericks, that fact became official on Saturday. The future Hall of Famer signed a $25 million contract over three years.
Earlier in the offseason, Kidd was supposedly interested in joining the New York Knicks. However, the Mavs were able to offer more money and that seemed to turn the tables in the negotiations.
Last season, Kidd was extremely impressive as the Mavs made it to the second round of the playoffs. During the regular season, he averaged 9.0 points, 8.7 assists, 6.1 rebounds and 2.0 steals. Perhaps most impressive is the fact that he set a career-high in three-point percentage at 40.6%.
Even though he’s 36 years old, Kidd is still one of the better point guards in the league. If the Mavs are to win a championship, he’d play a hugely important role.
