Wow! Thats all I can say I work with TIPCO/TICOA from 1980-1983 and I never saw this crap, I am not saying it didn't happen but I myself learned from my time selling door to door. We had morning meeting which taught me how to be a strong person, to be positive and how to over come my fears. I worked with Roy, Mike Furman, Tom Roach, Belo and many more. I know that cash was eld on the books but I got to travel the US which I could never have done on my own, I used their cars which the paid for and insured and bought gas for, I stayed in a hotel room which they put out the cash for ( yes I know I was charged for it but I did not have to come up with the money up front) I met lots of people some very famous, I was taken to Acapulco for a week long paid vacation which again I paid nothing for. I believe I would not be the strong positive woman I am today if it wasn't for this biz. I am sorry for those of you had a bad experience but can I ask you a question? Did you get anything positive for you experience? Dont dwell on the bad pull from the good. Oh and I ended up married to my manager who got off the road with me to start a family and I would never change my past I am who I am because of it.

I just ran into this article while surfing the web, and I too worked for Roy back in the 1984 for a magazine crew...I was a young naive woman. Back then the company was called TICOA and Roy was was married to Pam, and Belo Kellam was the head of the corporation. I saw some of the things mentioned above and experienced some of it myself. It wasn't too bad for me, but I was naive at that young age and didn't want to believe that I made a mistake in my job choice. The first few weeks were actually pretty good because I got to go to Ft. Lauderdale for the annual awards banquet and it was nice. After that I did experience the "getting left out in strange neighborhoods alone till you got your quota" like everyone else. AND I don't recall EVER getting paid anything but a minimal allowance per day which we had to use to eat, if we even got a chance to eat. It was ok, until one night when I experienced one of Roy's rages. Apparently his wife was messing around with one of the top sellers, Steve T. (who now I find out runs his own magazine business that is under investigation) and Roy found out. He called me and told me to get to his room immediately and take his daughter who was maybe 5 at the time and keep her safe. He had a gun and was freaking out. I remember feeling so scared - it was like a bad scary nightmare. I found a phone, called home and told my parents what was happening. They told me to get out immediately. I remember feeling scared for his daughter, but I needed to take care of myself...remember I was young, too. When I told Roy that I was leaving and I would like my wages and my ticket home (at this time he seemed like he was dazed from all the drama) he told me that all I would get was a ride to the airport. That is where I slept and waited for my parents to get there (they had to drive there). At that time, there weren't cell phones (at least not like these days) and I had to keep in touch with my parents via pay phones. This is one of the scariest times I have had in my life. I never turned back and always wondered what happened that night at the motel after I left. I am just glad I have learned from that and do not want any other kids to go through that with any magazine crews. When they come to my door, I always tell them to get out before its too late. Roy should pay for what he did to us. I only wish that I had seen this post earlier to make some kind of impact or join the "revolution" to bring some justice to these bastards. They had and have the kids walking in sometimes dangerous neighborhoods making money for them while they drove around in nice cadillacs wearing Rolex watches. Meanwhile we were given our measly allowance, if we were lucky....and not to mention the folks that trusted us with their money for magazines. I hope to God that they at least received their magazines as I had promised them. Like people before said --Karma -- it will come back to you.

Thank god for Karma.. Roy is not the only one that the IRS should go after.. They should really look at everyone involved with World Media International.. Such as Mark N. I am sure the IRS would love to know how Mark paid cash for Rolex watchs, cars, motorcycles, vans, etc.. I really hope he gets what is coming to him.. I really think that the US Postal Services should look into mail fraud.. Roy & Mark would make us travel around the country from state to state, telling people that we were in some contest and they needed to buy magazines to earn points.. They dealed in mostly cash.. No one ever one the contest.. Mark you are as guilty as Roy...I will do everything in my power to see that you go to jail

I worked for Roy waaay back in 1980 - 81 when he was with Transcontinental Clearing House of America. I was extremely young (18) and naiive. Believe it or not he was pretty good to me over all. I actually have fond memories of my time travelling with them all. It wasn't perfect, but not at all what these other folks went through. I must have gotten involved before he went nuts. I believe he was not always a bad guy, greed and/or drugs got ahold of him and he made some terrible, terrible choices that hurt a lot of people. I personally pray he can turn his life around and do what he can to make restitution and amends. Still naiive???? Probably, but I believe people can change and do the right thing, and I hope he is one of them.

Could this be the Roy Snowden who lurred me away from my broken family at 13 or 14 to "make lots of money in his magazine company" He freely fed me drugs cocaine -who knows what else and had sex with me. If this is the man, he is guilty of much more.

J WROTE:
I am not here to 'slam'Cuppy's/Java Jo'z, however I do think its important to understand the relevance of Roy Snowden and World Media in relationship to this topic. I understand that most of the conversatio here is based on the Cuppy's/Java Jo'z scandal. But Roy is also in prison due to tax evasion and IRS fraud issues, correct? Why it is your place to decide which of us that were screwed over by this man have a write to voice oppinion here confuses me. Who are you the blog police? Back off and understand that the people who lost 30grand of refundable deposits were not the first to be screwed by Roy and Kim. I know, I am also a past sales rep for World Media.

It is just as important for someone like Trisha to voive her oppinion as it is for the rest of you. You all may be involved a little more on a professional level and feel that because you may be directly related to the coffee end of the scandal, that your oppinions here are more valid. You are adults who probably make rational decisions and you were still taken for a ride by this guy. Trisha was a child when he manipulated her and so was I. And....so were hundreds of other children as young between 16 and 20 years old.....and so were hundreds of thousands of folks who bought or renewed magazine subscriptions from these kids at their doorstep, perhapse paid in cash and never recieved one issue of the magazine and no doubt never saw the $40 to $80 again. Maybe this is not the place to be bringing this up. But its definitely not your right to tell Trisha to take it somewhere else. If you people heard her story and stories from hundreds of other children (or the parents of these kids) 5 or 10 years ago it may have helped you to make different and better decisions regarding your trusting your investments with this man. If you had known me, and my story, you would have asked different questions and maybe taken your business elsewhere. What happened to us on the magazine crew is relevant because it shows a cycle and a trend of how this man operates. Falsley advertising in local newspapers directed at appealing to kids. Liying to them about the expectations of the job when you hire them. Bussing them from there home in Seattle to Escondito, CA where they pack 4 to 7 kids per room in ratty, shabby, filthy hotels in ghetto-esque neighborhoods. Bussing them around these same neighborhoods and dropping them off, alone, for hours at a time with no phone or possible way to call for help if something should happen to them or if they should get lost. Only allowing them 2 meals a day, one very early and one very very late. Requiring them to work 6 or 7 hours a day from 8am until they got there 'quota', often times keeping them out in crime ridden neighborhoods long after dark knocking on strangers doors asking for money for magazines at 11pm or later. At the popular chance that one did not get their 'quota' there was punishment. You might go hungry, you might sleep on the floor or worse, you might be physically harmed during a fit of rage in one of Roys temper tantrums. I can tell you about a time where I had raised some eyebrows in the group and caused negativity because I complained when I was not allowed to visit my family for my birthday. A meeting was called for the entire crew and in Roys rage he picked up an adding machine and sent it flying accross the room, landing against a wall inches from my 19 year old head. After that, it was thought that I might try to leave the crew so I was not given my 15$ a day money to eat for the next few weeks and was forced to borrow or share from other kids. My phone card given to me by my mother was taken from me. I was threatened that if I left I would owe thousands of dollars for my hotel accomodations for the last several months, though I had made thousands of thousands of dollars for Roy that I never saw a penny of. Tell me that my oppinion on the man does not matter. Tell me I cant voice it here. He was lying, cheating and stealing long before this story became public conversation. The difference is, at that time he was lying cheating and stealing from your children or your grandchildren.

I for one am happy to see him get what he deserves. To bad Kim is not getting hers as well. I give props to Trish for standing up for herself here.

I have said from the beginning this was not about me being a part of the franchise...But As J. Gleason points out this man and His wife have a track record...the Jail time he is doing is because of hiding his ASSETS of WORLD MEDIA INTERNATIONAL INC... and the money he made during 4-5 years of that buisness---- I am sorry that the taste left in my mouth by this man is still bitter....Excuse the Pun... To say that the only ones important here are those that Lost 30,000 from the Java JO'z....Is Ignorant....I wish I could tell you how much money the man owes me and thousands of other kids and MAGAZINE customers. I have every right to comment on this and back up the anger that these other people are, that were screwed by ROY P SNOWDEN and KIM SNOWDEN.

The fact I am dead or kidnapped after being left in the Ghetto of ST.paul w/ no money or way home....TO RI....at 19 years old shows the reason for my bitterness....anger ...and complete satisfaction in his imprisonment.

I have said from the beginning this was not about me being a part of the franchise…But As J. Gleason points out this man and His wife have a track record…the Jail time he is doing is because of hiding his ASSETS of WORLD MEDIA INTERNATIONAL INC… and the money he made during 4-5 years of that buisness—- I am sorry that the taste left in my mouth by this man is still bitter….Excuse the Pun… To say that the only ones important here are those that Lost 30,000 from the Java JO’z….Is Ignorant….I wish I could tell you how much money the man owes me and thousands of other kids and MAGAZINE customers. I have every right to comment on this and back up the anger that these other people are, that were screwed by ROY P SNOWDEN and KIM SNOWDEN.

The fact I am dead or kidnapped after being left in the Ghetto of ST.paul w/ no money or way home….TO RI….at 19 years old shows the reason for my bitterness….anger …and complete satisfaction in his imprisonment.

Florida Businessman Sentenced to 48 Months in Prison for Tax Fraud
On March 6, 2007, Pensacola, FL, Roy P. Snowden was sentenced to 48 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release and to pay a special monetary assessment of $100 per count of conviction. Snowden admitted during his November 2006 plea hearing that he was a businessman engaged in a variety of marketing and investment-type ventures, including a magazine distribution business. He had most recently been manufacturing and selling “Java Jo’z” drive-thru coffee businesses. The indictment and factual basis for pleas further proved that his wife was named president and director of the Ft. Walton Beach business, though the indictment alleges she had little to do with its operation. Snowden admitted that he failed to file accurate and timely income tax returns from 1992 through 1997 and was subsequently assessed taxes by the IRS. After the tax assessment, Snowden admitted he transferred businesses and placed assets in others’ names, and created corporate entities which he used in part to transfer and hold money and property out of the reach of the IRS.
