Tiki Barber ends his career
It had all the makings of a storybook game. The big stories were there waiting to happen.
Eli Manning was going to finally take his Giants deep into the playoffs and Tiki Barber was going to ride off into the sunset after reaching the Super Bowl. It didn’t happen.
Final Score Philadelphia Eagles 23 New York Giants 20.
It classic fashion it came down… to the final drive. Unfortunately for the Giants, it was Jeff Garcia and the Eagles making that final drive.
It came down to a David Akers field goal and in spite of a constant drizzle it went cleanly through the uprights.
Just before the final drive, the Giants drove up the field with some great plays by Plaxico Burress on some clutch throws from Eli Manning. Father Archie was probably dreaming of an all Manning Super Bowl.
On one 3rd and 13, Eli threw a short pass to Plax, who juked his man and ran for the first down. It was looking like a great Giants comeback. Shortly after that, Eli threw to Plax for the touchdown. The extra point tied the game.
Manning had thrown 2 TDs to Plax and Tiki had gained 137 yards.
Jeff was quietly efficient and Bryant Westbrook was a monster at running back, even though he was taking oxygen for a stomach problem. Westbrook had 141 yards and a touchdown.
The Eagles and Jeff Garcia just marched up the field eating up the clock, until time for the field goal with 3 seconds left.
How is Garcia doing this? Well, with the way the Eagles offensive line is blocking, it is making things pretty easy. Jeff’s main job is not to lose the game.
