The last we heard from Jeremy Shockey, he was getting taken to a hospital after being found unconscious at a Las Vegas pool party. Now Shockey back in the news again — but for a good reason. The tight end for the New Orleans Saints said he will join the voluntary practices.
Shockey indicated that part of his motivation is to get a comfort level with quarterback Drew Brees: “I still haven’t been here a year so I can mature a long way and tune up my game. The most important thing is to know Drew and know what we’re trying to get accomplished and knowing each other’s game. It’s still a new offense for me. I’m going to treat it as a rookie like anyone else in this locker room that just got here.”
As for what happened in Las Vegas that caused his medical emergency, he wasn’t as talkative.
“You know what they say, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” quipped Shockey. “That’s in the past. I’m looking forward to the future.”
In his first season with the Saints, Shockey authored a disappointing 2008 campaign. While struggling with injuries throughout, he was only able to total 483 yards and no touchdowns in 12 games.
