JetBlue Makes Emergency Landing
BREAKING NEWS: A JetBlue Airbus A320 with malfunctioning landing gear is preparing to make an emergency landing at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on runway 25R (CNN is reporting 25L). JetBlue flight 292, which departed Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport at 3:17pm enrout to John F. Kennedy International Airport, has 139 passengers and six crewmembers on board. The jet had been in a holding pattern over the Long Beach Airport for some time to burn off fuel in preparation for the landing (the Airbus A320 is incapable of dumping fuel). The nose gear is currently at a 90-degree angle, so the tires are oriented perpendicular to the direction of flight, rather than straight ahead. Some 110 emergency personnel are standing by. All traffic in and out of LAX has now been suspended. Here is the live ATC FEED. Here is the Long Beach Air Traffic Control LIVE FEED. UPDATE: The airplane has landed safely. The landing gear did not collapse, but instead skidded the entire distance of the landing roll. The pilot held the nose gear up for as long as possible, and when he finally eased it down, the tires started smoking, then briefly caught fire. The most interesting and unusual aspect of all this is that JetBlue offers live TV news to its passengers — they could have watched the whole thing on CNN as it was happening. But, according to CNN, which says it received an e-mail from a passenger with a Blackberry, the pilot ordered the TVs to be turned off. UPDATE: The CNN report was only partially true. Passengers watched the crisis unfold on TV as they burned off fuel over Long Beach Airport, but had to turn them off for landing (as is the standard procedure for any landing).

I can not believe that landing, when i saw the aircraft flare flare flare and the rear gears touchdown, i figured the front gear would fell off and it would ride on the nose but it was a Great Landing. Thanks to a good pilot and copilot they saved 139 lives.
