Jimmy Smith, the former wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, was arrested on Wednesday after crack and marijuana were found in his automobile. Smith was pulled over in Jacksonville on Interstate 95.
Smith is in Duval County Jail and now faces a number of drug charges. He is also facing a charge of driving while having a suspended driver’s license.
This isn’t Smith’s first brush with the law. Cocaine was found in his blood after being pulled over for a DUI in 2001. In 2003, he was suspended by the NFL due to testing positive. Smith has attended drug rehab at least one time.
Although he was on other teams’ rosters in the early part of his career, every game he played in the NFL was with the Jaguars. From 1995 to his retirement in 2005, Smith had 862 receptions, 12,287 yards and 67 touchdowns. The best year of his career was in 1999 when he had 116 receptions for 1,636 yards and six touchdowns.
