Joba Chamberlain Busted – DUI Arrest

October 19, 2008 by Kori Ellis

Over the weekend, Joba Chamberlain of the New York Yankees was arrested on suspicion of DUI, having an open container and for speeding. Chamberlain was in his home state of Nebraska when he was arrested.

Chamberlain entered the 2008 baseball season as the setup man in the bullpen for the Yankees. After New York suffered a number of injuries to their starting rotation, Chamberlain became a starter. An injury late in the year sidelined Chamberlain for a while and when he returned, he was back in the bullpen. Overall, his 2008 season had to be considered a success, as the fireballer had an ERA of 2.60 with 118 strikeouts in 100.1 innings.

After Chamberlain’s DUI arrest in Nebraska, he released the following statement:

“I want to apologize to the New York Yankees and the fans for an error in judgment and for putting myself in a difficult situation. I intend to properly resolve this situation, and do not intend to be in such a situation again. My goal is to focus on pitching for the Yankees in the 2009 season.”

Hopefully, for the sake of Chamberlain and Yankee fans around the world, Chamberlain will use a designated driver for the rest of the offseason.

Hopefully a DUI arrest will set him straight. He has got a great career, it would be a shame for him to lose it over alchohol.

Drink – walk – don’t drive. Thank you for this great contest and prize!

Gotta appreciate it when someone owns up to their mistake and makes a commitment to do better. :)
