Joe Paterno: Too Old for the Game?

Penn State breezed past Temple today, once again putting up over 30 points before even heading to the locker room for halftime.
No one’s really talking about the game, though, since it was a blow out…what people are talking about is the fact that Penn State head coach Joe Paterno coached much of the game from the booth instead of from the sidelines.
Is JoePa getting too old for this game?
I love Penn State. I love Paterno. It’s a legitimate question, though. Today’s box coaching came about because a few days ago he hurt his leg kicking a ball at practice. Anyone can do that – players get hurt at practice all of the time – but Paterno has a much bigger chance of hurting himself since he is older.
Wait, wait. Don’t yell at me just yet, PSU fans. I want to add a “however” to that statement.
Paterno might be old; HOWEVER, a good coach is a good coach, no matter what his age. Penn State is dominating this year, and even though critics keep saying “they haven’t played anyone worthwhile yet,” I have full confidence that they’ll do just as well against harder teams.
So leave the guy alone. When he can’t coach anymore, I think the man has enough dignity to remove himself from the position. Age is just a number.
