Last week, I talked about the SEC’s debate regarding adding an early signing day to the schedule. Although 9 out or 12 SEC head coaches voted in favor of adding the day, the presidents and athletic directors ultimately voted it down, so the SEC will not officially endorse the idea.
And Penn State’s Joe Paterno agrees.
When talking to recruits, Paterno said “I don’t want to turn into a used car salesman. … We’re dealing with a young man’s life, and we’d like to be able to present the situation as best we can, and as honestly as we can.”
He also noted that prospects should be allowed to verbally commit and then have some time to think about the decision and feel good about it before signing a binding agreement.
We are talking about 17- and 18-year-old kids, after all.
What do you think? Are you in favor of an early signing day?
