John Lucas is back in the NBA. This time he will be joining the Los Angeles Clippers as an assistant coach. He was last in the NBA as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Lucas was last in the headlines after Michael Beasley of the Miami Heat entered rehab. Beasley was reportedly in Houston working with Lucas, who has long worked with athletes with substance abuse problems.
With the Clippers, Lucas will be under head coach Mike Dunleavy and will work with fellow assistants Fred Vinson, Kim Hughes and Tony Brown. Although L.A. had another disappointing season last year, the addition of Blake Griffin has some Clippers fans whispering about the playoffs for the 2009-10 NBA campaign.
Prior to being a head caoch for the Cavs, Lucas was a head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers and the San Antonio Spurs. He was also an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets. As a player, he spent parts of 14 seasons in the NBA.
