Josh Freeman may start for Bucs

Growing up, it was not uncommon for NFL quarterback wantabe’s to sit on the bench for 5 years learning their craft and honing their skills in preparation of becoming the starting quarterback. Boy, that was a long time ago.

Last year, Matt Ryan at Atlanta and Joe Flacco at Baltimore took teams into the playoffs. Yeah, yeah, they did not win, but then again, where would those teams have been without them? Home watching TV, that is where.

Josh Freeman may not be looking up the depth chart much longer

Now Josh Freeman, the brilliant rookie for the Tampa Bay Bucs, has a chance to take over the starting reigns at Tampa Bay a year sooner than was planned.

If the Bucs do accelerate Freeman’s ascent to the quarterback throne, it will almost certainly have as much to do with the play of the other contenders for that job as it does Freeman.

Neither Luke McCown nor Byron Leftwich performed exceptionally well during the recent minicamp, and it’s becoming apparent the Bucs have concerns about both.

They’re concerned about McCown’s lack of experience, of course, but even moreso they seem to be concerned about Leftwich’s lack of top-level athleticism and escapability

With all the money thrown at these rookie quarterbacks, it is hard to be patient.
