“Here’s how my day has gone so far; breakfast in Paris, shopping in Milan, short tour of the pyramids, surfing the coal off Australia and this was all before noon.”
Okay so that isn’t exactly how his day went but that is how mine would start if I could jump anywhere and do anything I wanted and that is the basic idea that “Jumper” starts out on. What would you do if you could go anywhere and do anything? Which is a interesting notion for most of us. Yet for David, played wonderfully by Hayden Christensen of Star Wars fame, that is his life. Until he learns that not only is he not alone but there is also an army of hunters sworn to destroy all jumpers.
This was a surprisingly good movie for me. Admittedly I am a huge Star Wars fan so of course I love all the actors, but I wasn’t really sure about the concept. It just didn’t seem realistic to me (because all movies are real?). Yet Christensen brings a youthful playfulness to this character. You understand why he lives the life he lives and when he has to make the tough choices you get it. You find yourself making them with him and throwing yourself into this battle that has been raging since the beginning of time.
I think that is what makes this movie and the DVD so good. Not only can you tell that they put a lot into the special effects thought process but they also put thought into the history of the characters. Plus they have included a few behind the scene featurettes that let you in on how they created the background of “Jumper”. My only issue was that you had to flip the disk to get to some of the special features, but worth it all in the same.
If you haven’t seen it you wouldn’t be wasting your money if you purchased this DVD because you saw it at a great price. You’ll enjoy it and be ready for the sequels????? (Check out the featurettes)
