Just Imagine the Happy Endings

Welcome to the post-Barbaro era, fans. That more-god-than-horse really showed us how the noble equine was meant to be treated: royally. (And for the love of God, keep Harry Potter away from that horse!) They’re better than us, and deserve likewise. In that vein, I introduce you to Cindy McVey, Equine Sports Massage Therapist. Yes, horses are now getting massages outside of Tijuana. McVey is the massage therapist for Kentucky Derby contender Hard Spun. Want to know details about horse massages? Of course you do.

McVey begins 90-minute therapy sessions on Hard Spun with percussion strokes to warm the muscles. The massage begins at the muscle that sits behind his ears, the rectus capitus lateralis, and ends, well, at the horse’s rear.

The muscles of any race horse feel taut. Racing can take a tremendous toll.

The muscles quiver, she said, on a race horse. “It’s like working on a jackhammer; the muscle is shaking and quivering in your fingers.”

Is having a horse massage described to you not nearly enough? Do you need first hand experiences? You too can touch horses semi-inappropriately for a living! Just enroll at Prairie Winds, the Equine Massage Therapy College. It’s all too real.
