July 5, 2008 by Sandy Mitchell

Twenty-nine-year-old Kara Goucher won the women’s 5000m event last night at the US Olympic Track & Field Qualifying Meet to secure herself a ticket to Beijing. The Minnesota native has battled injury and more than a few racing disappointments in her quest to compete in the Olympic Games. Goucher also qualified for the 10,000m race earlier in the week with a second place finish.

Joining her for the 5000m in Beijing will be second place finisher, Jennifer Rhines and third place finisher, Shalane Flanagan.

Kara’s grandfather is my brother, which makes Kara my grand niece! I can’t find any results of the 5000m. When will it be run and or has it been run? This is Sunday eve. 8-17, at 4;15 pm.
Can anybody help. Thanks. Ray Haworth

    Hi!
The women’s 5000m will be run Saturday night (840am Eastern Time on Sunday in the United States). I wish Kara good luck in the race.
