Kellogg Drops Michael Phelps as Pitchman
Company Says Swimmer’s Behavior ‘Not Consistent With Image’ Of Cereal Company
Kellogg Co., maker of Frosted Flakes and Keebler cookies, announced it would not be renewing the company’s endorsement contract with Michael Phelps due to the publicity surrounding a picture of the gold-medal swimmer taking a bong hit at a recent campus party.
In a statement released yesterday, the company said Mr. Phelps’ behavior was “not consistent with the image of Kellogg.”
According to anonymous sources, representatives from Doritos and White Castle hamburgers are interested in talking to Phelps saying “his image is right in our freakin’ wheelhouse.”
Kellogg has announced it will continue to try to get kids hooked on sugar by using a talking tiger and cookie-making elves as advertising icons for their products.
A spokesman for Kellogg acknowledged, “You’d have to be pretty high to take nutritional advice from a tiger with a scarf and a bunch of dysfunctional elves who violate nearly every OSHA standard on the books by brewing up cookies inside a rotted out oak tree.”
