Kevin Jones, Detroit Lions, is off the team

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Kevin Jones will play on one foot, if only you give him a chance!

Kevin JonesHe had to go.

It was a bad injury to his foot.

Some thought he might have to miss the whole 2007 season.

Now it looks like he is on pace to be ready to play for the Detroit Lions in the fall.

Wait a minute. You said he is off the team. That is your ever loving title of this whole written mess.

He is off the team. He is off my Fantasy Team. (Squibster full disclosure – Kevin Jones was a backup running back for my NFL Fantasy Football Team)

Michael Fabiano writes for NFL.com about 20 players that will take a big fall in the Fantasy Football world.

1. Kevin Jones, RB, Detroit: The versatile Jones was in the midst of a breakout season for the Lions in 2006 but an injured foot caused him to miss the final three weeks. Even if he can return in time for the regular-season opener, Jones will no doubt share at least some carries with Tatum Bell, who was acquired from Denver. Furthermore, he could lose goal-line looks to T.J. Duckett. source

If you need some Lions, then try Ernie Sims for Defense and Roy Williams for Receiver. Both of them had better than average seasons last year and both of them are coming into their own.

[Note: Many Fantasy Footballers like to take a lot of players from their favorite team. If your favorite team is the Lions, then take the above two players and call me in the morning.]

Mike Bell from Denver is number 2, because Tatum Bell went to Detroit in the Dre’ Bly trade. Things were looking good for Mike until Denver picked up Travis Henry. Look for Henry to have a fantastic season behind the zone blocking of Denver.

Corey Dillon is number 3. Combine 33 years of age, a few extra pounds around the middle, and the existence of Lawrence Maroney and you find Dillon as a man without a team.

Down at number 7 we find David Carr. (Squibster full disclosure – Carr was briefly hot last year and was on your intrepid author’s team for a brief time)

In spite of no offensive line, it looked like Carr was making progress in the middle of last year, but he tailed off badly towards the end and the Texans decided to look elsewhere.

Now David Carr is the backup to Jake Delhomme and some think he will compete for the job, but that is a very high risk to take in the Fantasy draft.

At 10, 11, and 12, who would have thought, we have Reche Caldwell, Chris Simms, and Jamal Lewis.

Remember the look on Reche’s face when he dropped that wide open pass in the playoffs last year? Well, since then the Patriots have loaded up on receivers and Caldwell looks like the forgotten man.

Chris Simms, out with injuries last year, now has Jeff Garcia to share snaps with this year. After, Jeff was so hot with Philly last year; it would not be a good bet to take Simms on your team.

Jamal Lewis was dealt to the Browns by the trying to get just a little bit better Ravens. Now Lewis is on a bad club with a tough schedule.

Finally we should mention Duante Culpepper.

16. Daunte Culpepper, QB, Miami: The holder of two of the top six most productive fantasy seasons at the quarterback position since 1966, Culpepper’s status with the Dolphins is uncertain at best. He has endured another surgical procedure on his knee this offseason, and reports that Trent Green will be traded to the ‘Fins and replace Culpepper as the team’s starter still exist. source

Poor Daunte, how he has fallen!

Anyway, Kevin Jones is off my team, but maybe he can come back and help the Lions. They sure need him.
