When you think of KFC, you probably think of good eats. However, perhaps you should also start thinking about college scholarships. Recently, KFC gave its fourth class of students a total of $1.5 million in college scholarships.

Of more than 150,000 applicants to KFC’s 2009 Colonel’s Scholars Program, the fried chicken giant selected 75 high school seniors. KFC says that the students were selected based on their impact to their schools and communities, in addition to their financial needs.

Said the president of KFC, Roger Eaton: “These students have proven that they are completely committed to both their education and enriching and supporting their schools and communities. Because of this commitment, we are dedicating ourselves to helping them pursue their dreams and realize their goal of a college education.”

Each of the selected high school seniors will get up $20,000 over the next four years to pay for their college education. In total, KFC says they’ve given more than $5 million in scholarships since the inceptions of their Colonel’s Scholars Program.
