Kindle Dust Still Settling

There’s still lots of talk about Amazon’s Kindle.
For example, if:book talks about how the dollars might work for ebooks in a post called: kindle maths 101
Mashable talks about the problems with wireless, the Kindle and certain parts of the country in Moving To Montana? Forget About Your Kindle!
Then there are all sorts of sites that claim to offer ways to break into the digital rights management part of Kindle, some acknowledging copyright breaks, others just assuming it’s okay.
We’re closer to a breakthrough on ebooks and ebook readers imo, but we’re not quite there et.

Here’s how thick I am – I had no idea you had to be connected in order to use it. I thought it was like the Sony reader in that you upload a book, then go off somewhere and read it. So it’s more like an Internet connection, is that it?
Off to Amazon. I must investigate.
yeah, requires a wireless connection… am wondering if I could use it from my home… no wireless here but was experimenting with a friends laptop and could connect through the closest starbucks… for free?
but I don’t think you have to be connected once you’ve downloaded the book…
um, I’m sure you can load books via usb and such. It’s just that to get Amazon content you have to be connected over the air. You can load up non-DRM content from your PC.
Another option if you have not already spent $400 is to use the cell phone you already have as an eBook reader. Many (most?) cell phones are java enabled and make a fine book reader. I use http://www.booksinmyphone.com – they have selection for free (gratis) books you can install on your phone.
The reading experience is pretty compelling, its just you and the book. If you have the internet on our phone you can install from the mobile version of their site, otherwise from your PC. If all the stars are aligned right (phone model and carrier) then it can be a great way to carry a little library.
Avagee, isn’t reading on a cellphone screen pretty awful?
